Dr. Giles Budge

Head of Crop Science

Dr. Giles Budge is an applied scientist with expertise in pathology, apiculture, diagnostics and crop protection. His research focuses on finding intelligent solutions for real-world problems that inform policy makers and help industry. Dr. Budge recently led a successful £21m bid to establish a national Centre of innovation in Crop Health and Protection in York. He has provided expert evidence to inform several policy reviews surrounding pollinator health and protection.

Dr. Budge is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Entomology and a member of the Bee Health and Advisory Forum. Dr. Budge believes strongly that high quality outputs are more likely to result from interdisciplinary science and his ethos is to work collaboratively rather than in isolation. This is evidenced by leading several large collaborative grants, including a successful BBSRC funded transatlantic partnering award and a project funded under the Insect Pollinator Initiative.
