Paul Brereton is an analytical chemist with over 25 years' experience of working in the field of food authenticity. He leads international multi-disciplinary research programmes in the area of food traceability and authenticity such as: TRACE (2004-2008) developing analytical approaches for tracing the origin of food, FoodIntegrity (2014-2018) developing methods and systems for assuring the authenticity of food and Authent-Net (2015-2016). He has served as advisor to the International Wine Organisation (OIV), World Bank and has over 70 peer reviewed publications on food safety quality and authenticity. He recently edited the book "new Analytical approaches for verifying the origin of food". Since October 2015 he has had a joint position with Newcastle University looking at food fraud risks along the agri-food chain.
