At Fera Science Ltd we have been supporting the food industry for many years and have extensive knowledge of the Food Regulatory systems for snacks and convenience foods both in Europe and further afield. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has been working to understand more about acrylamide, in attempt to reduce the risk that it presents and provide advice to both industry and consumers. For further reading from the FSA click here
In terms of product safety, if you simply want to know what to test for, our FC24 Food Contaminants Online service is a great place to start.
Snacks can however have some extra challenges. For example, acrylamide (a chemical produced naturally in food as a result of cooking starch rich food at high temperatures) has been identified by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) as “potentially increasing the risk of developing cancer for consumers in all age groups”. Other chemicals of concern, which may also be formed during manufacturing, include furan, 3- and 2-monochloropropane-1, 2-diol (MCPD) and glycidyl esters.
Do you know what testing is required now? Will your business be ready for any regulatory changes? If not, why not visit us at IFE 2017 on Stand N2332.
We would also be pleased to discuss how our expertise and techniques can also be used to improve the quality and consistency of your products. Coupled with our knowledge of ‘measurement science’ our food experts can provide effective solutions to a wide range of complex issues relating to food production.
