Fera's technical staff have many years experience carrying out pesticide residue testing, providing services across the food supply chain. Our aim is to understand and meet the demands of the customer and to assist with any upcoming and emerging issues. The majority of pesticides can be analysed by multiresidue screening methods, in addition we also offer a range of single residue methods.
Our expertise focuses on research, surveillance and targeted commercial analysis of known and unknown migrants in food contact materials and articles, foods and food simulants. Our staff are experts in policy and legislation in this area as well as in the analysis of these matrices. Our skills are applied to the development and validation of analytical methodology for a variety of food contaminants from other sources (e.g. processing and environmental contaminants) and problem solving. Fera is the UK National Reference Laboratory for Materials and Articles in Contact with Food.
Our experts focus on the scientific research relating to intentionally added food components and to those arising from chemical changes during food processing, bioactive chemicals and natural toxicants. Our research work supports both the development of analytical methods and the identification of chemical species, and to translate our applied research into solutions for our business partners. We work with consultant colleagues to provide accurate and reliable scientific information to assist in the development of advice to UK Government, EU, academic and commercial customers. We have expertise in regulations, standards, dietary exposure, human intervention studies, fate and behaviour studies, the development of new products and processes and extensive knowledge in the area of food chemical risk.
Fera has been carrying out residue testing for over 30 years, providing services across the food supply chain. Our experience is such that we know what to look for in any given foodstuff so can help you identify an appropriate testing regimen for your animal-based food ingredients and products.
Tests include Anthelmintics, Antibiotic Screen, Avermectins, Benzimidazoles, Chloramphenicol, Coccidiostats, Lasalocid, Macrolides, Malachite Green & Crystal Violet, Nitrofurans, Nitroimidazoles, NSAID's (inc Bute), Penicillins, Quinolones, Sulphonamides, Tetracyclines.
Our experts have extensive knowledge and expertise in the determination of a wide range of mycotoxins in foods and feeds. We undertake research, surveillance and commercial analysis of mycotoxins in food and animal feed using a variety of methods. Fera is the UK National Reference Laboratory for Mycotoxins and we collaborate extensively on projects within the UK and Europe.
Our experts specialise in the detection and accurate measurement of trace elements and metals in a wide range of matrices including food ingredients, processed foods, animal feeds, clinical materials and soils. Fera has developed several sample digestion and advanced detection techniques such as Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) that allows us to test for more than 60 elements in one analytical run.
The environmental contaminants team specialises in ultra trace analysis (parts per trillion and lower) of dioxins, PCBs, PAHs, brominated flame retardants and related emerging contaminants in food and related samples. The team works with many collaborators to answer problems requiring a multi-disciplinary response.
