Internal monitoring, or quality control to many of us, comprises of a systematic series of checks to monitor day-to-day and batch-to-batch variation in performance. This is essential when you want to maintain the quality of your product and vital in your armoury for brand protection in terms of avoiding any product recall. This is best achieved by periodic re-measurement of check specimens which resemble as closely as possible real test pieces or samples. FAPAS quality control test materials are real food matrices with one or more properties that have been sufficiently well established from the results of laboratories participating in a proficiency test to be used by laboratories as quality control materials.
Within our quality control materials we use correct specimens, which are stable enough and in sufficient quantity to be measured over a period of time. This ensures a similar response to your test pieces and those with zero or very low response (blank determinations). Generally these QC samples will be prepared on a routine basis by the measurement staff in accordance with procedures documented in the quality system.
Reference materials for the food analysis sector are not numerous and Fapas test materials undergo rigorous quality and stability testing making them suitable for use. Currently we have Quality Control materials only available for food chemistry matrices. The values have been derived as a consensus of a number of laboratories using a variety of methods.
The satisfactory range indicates the range between which results would have been awarded a satisfactory z-score in the proficiency test. The satisfactory range is set as a range that is considered fit for purpose and reflects the expected interlaboratory reproducibility. Full details of the statistical methods used by FAPAS are given in our protocol
We hold an extensive catalogue of reference materials (RMs) and quality control materials (QCs). These include the following matrices:
All our reference materials are available to order online from:
We also offer one of the widest range of reference materials in the world. As part of our Reference Materials programme, the range now includes over 1,000 different substances, in both solution and neat form, together with a comprehensive range of prepared mixes. Our independent lots of mixes are not simply prepared by different individuals on different balances, but use different lots of the raw materials - ensuring an Independent supply for quality assurance purposes. Our ongoing reference materials development programme continues to produce new products to meet the demand of the analytical laboratory community.
