Initial Assessment

Initial Assessment

Initial Assessment of an Unknown Problem:

We understand that every case is different and often you may not know the likely cause of the problem. For these cases we offer an initial examination of your sample by our Plant Clinic experts to assess the most probable cause, costing from as little as £110. What this typically includes:

  • Visual examination of your sample by our plant pathologists to assess the most probable cause and appropriate method of testing (please be aware this does not include screening for viral pathogens)
  • In the event of more than one probable cause (e.g. bacterial and fungal) or specific testing being required we will contact you to discuss the additional work and costs
  • We will report back to you within 5 working days of receiving your sample, giving our initial examinations findings and if appropriate, a timescale for completion of the work

Nutrient Analysis via Lancrop Laboratories

Whilst Fera Plant Clinic does not carry out nutrient analysis; we are able to arrange for testing to be carried out by Lancrop Laboratories and charged back at cost.

As this work is delivered by Lancrop Laboratories, Fera Plant Clinic cannot offer interpretation of results.

Samples sent to Fera for nutrient analysis only will incur an additional handling charge to cover administrative and postal costs. If samples are sent for disease/insect identification and nutrient analysis, this charge will be waived.

Relevant soil, compost, water and seed tests services are listed separately: Soil, Compost and Growing Media, Seeds, Water.

Notes

  • Timescales given are working days or weeks.
  • A 'sample' is defined as a unique unit sent in for examination of the same problem. A unit can be a single item (plant, plant part, soil, etc.), or multiple items of the same variety, taken from the same location and exhibiting the same problem. In the case of plants or produce, a sample should comprise 2 or 3 items showing a range of symptoms along with a couple of healthy looking items for comparison. Entirely dead material should not be submitted for testing.
  • † Services have been accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service to BS/EN/ISO/IEC 17025:1999 General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories for tests detailed in the schedule of accreditation number 1642 (available at http://www.ukas.org).
