Fera have previously used aerial and satellite imagery data to assess woodland compositions, health and for species identification.

The Fera UAV provides us with an additional imagery acquisition tool to rapidly collect very high resolution data over woodland areas.

Our fixed wing UAV is able to fly faster and for longer than rotary UAVs owing to its aerodynamic design. The UAV also carries a twin sensor payload allowing us to collect high resolution (2.5 - 5cm) multispectral imagery. These qualities make Fera's UAV ideally suited to surveying woodland and forested areas.

Fera's UAV, GIS and Remote Sensing Specialists have the skills and knowledge to analyse and interpret satellite and UAV imagery, allowing us to produce actionable data that can inform woodland management decisions.

Tree Species Identification - Fera have used multispectral imagery collected by a UAV to identify different tree species within a woodland to assist the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) with their tree inspections.
